New York - Electronics and media retail store chain Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) has partnered with mobile network operator Verizon (NYSE: VZ) to sell the iRex, a European e-book reader made by a unit of Philips (NYSE: PHG), in the U.S. market.

The $399 device will sport an 8.1-inch touch-screen display, and feature direct links to Barnes and Noble's (NYSE: BN) e-book store via a 3G connection on Verizon's wireless network.

The iRex will be sold in Best Buy stores along with Amazon's (NASD: AMZN) $489, 10-inch Kindle DX and Sony's (NYSE: SNE) $399, 7-inch Daily Reader Edition.

The New York Times reports that Best Buy is creating new showcase areas for the devices in its stores, and is training employees on how to demonstrate the e-book readers for customers.
