WhoGlue Sues Facebook for Patent InfringementAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on September 24, 2009 - 7:27am.
Palo Alto,
Calif. - A Baltimore-based
company has filed suit against Facebook for allegedly infringing on its
two-year-old patent, Bloomberg reported.
The company, a small software maker called WhoGlue, claims that the social networking giant has violated its 2007 patent for methods of managing personal relationship data on the Internet. The company, which first applied for the patent in 2001 -- or three years before Facebook was founded -- is seeking unspecified damages, as well as an injunction to stop Facebook from using the technology. WhoGlue develops web-based relationship management software for membership organizations. "Our solutions are designed to strengthen existing relationships; both between organization and member as well as member to member," WhoGlue says on its web site. "These relationships form a network of individuals who share common interests, beliefs and goals."
