Cupertino, Calif. - Just six months after reaching the 1 billion milestone, Apple (NASD: AAPL) said on Monday that the 2 millionth app now has been downloaded from its App Store, which features applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It had taken nine months for the first billion.

"The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, adding that the store "has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device."

The store now features more than 85,000 apps, while over 125,000 developers are now working on the platform via Apple's iPhone Developer Program.
