Conde Nast to Lay Off 180, Shutter Gourmet, Other TitlesAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 5, 2009 - 9:08am.
New York - Veteran publishing house Conde Nast will lay off
about 180 people and shutter its Gourmet, Cookie, Modern Bride and Elegant
Bride, as part of a cost-cutting initiative launched after a three-month review
of the company by McKinsey & Co.
The Wall Street Journal reports that costs will be cut by as much as 20-25% at remaining Conde Nast publications, which include Vogue and Vanity Fair. Earlier this year, the company shuttered its Portfolio and Domino titles. Gourmet had been published since 1940; the company's other big food-related title, Bon Apetit, will continue publishing.
