Holmdel, N.J. - Internet telephony firm Vonage (NYSE: VG) on Monday announced the release of mobile applications for Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone and RIM's (NASD: RIMM) BlackBerry. The free applications let users make low-cost international calls either over a Wi-Fi connection, or on the same voice network used to make regular calls. "We're not trying to drive voice traffic over the data network at this point," Michael Tempora, SCP of products at Vonage, told The Times. "Though we do look forward to the wireless networks in the U.S. opening up so we can launch voice and messaging apps over 3G and 4G networks." A similar application from Google, Google Voice, has not yet been approved for the iPhone by Apple.
