Los Angeles - Digital music retailer 7digital on Tuesday announced its launch in the U.S., which will offer a library of over six million MP3s, priced at $7.77 for albums and 77 cents for individual songs. London-based 7digital has operated online stores in the U.K. and other parts of Europe since 2004.

The company waited on launching in the U.S., because it "needed to build the catalog and get all four majors on board in high-quality MP3 without paying huge advances (to the major record labels)," CEO Ben Drury told Wired.com.

In addition to the online MP3 store, 7digital also launched a mobile store application for RIM's BlackBerry.

The company recently sold a 50% stake to U.K.-based entertainment retail store chain HMV Group.
