Digital Music Store 7digital Debuts in U.S. with 77-Cent SongsAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 6, 2009 - 8:30am.
The company waited on launching in the U.S., because it "needed to build the catalog and get all four majors on board in high-quality MP3 without paying huge advances (to the major record labels)," CEO Ben Drury told Wired.com. In addition to the online MP3 store, 7digital also launched a mobile store application for RIM's BlackBerry. The company recently sold a 50% stake to U.K.-based entertainment retail store chain HMV Group.
