Basking Ridge, N.J. - Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) announced on Tuesday that
it plans to begin selling to smartphones based on Google's (NASD: GOOG) Android operating
system this year. The company will offer two Android smartphones yet this year,
both of which are expected to support the Google Voice application that has yet
to receive approval for use on Apple's iPhone. The Android platform currently
boasts over 10,000 applications, compared with 85,000 for the iPhone.
