Spotify Inks Deal With Swedish ISP Telia; Counts 2.7M U.K. UsersAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 8, 2009 - 10:46am.
Stockholm, Sweden - Spotify, the ad-supported streaming music
service available in Europe that plans to launch in the U.S. this year, has
partnered with Swedish telco Telia to offer a premium version of its service
that would be billed as a monthly fee added to a user's ISP or mobile phone
bill.
The offering -- which will be an optional add-on for Telia subscribers -- will also bring Spotify to television screens for the first time. Meanwhile, Spotify said in a presentation yesterday that it now counts 2.7 million users in the U.K., according to coverage by Music Ally. The presentation also noted that the service offers a library of 4 million tracks, from mainly major labels and independent label aggregators like The Orchard and Merlin.
