Reports: Activision Makes Layoffs, Closes Shaba StudiosAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 9, 2009 - 9:00am.
Santa Monica, Calif. - Vivendi-owned video game publisher Activision (NASD: ATVI) has
laid off an estimated 30 employees from its 7 Studios unit, and shuttered its
Shaba Games studio in San Francisco,
resulting in another 30 layoffs, according to reports from Kotaku and
PaidContent.
Activision recently acquired 7 Studios, developer of "Scratch: The Ultimate DJ"; the company is developing its own rival DJ-based game, "DJ Hero." Shaba had developed a number of titles in the Tony Hawk extreme sports franchise. The layoffs reportedly come due to sluggish sales of Activision titles.
