Survey: Venture Capital Fundraising Down Again in Q3Authored by Mark Hefflinger on October 13, 2009 - 11:11am.
New York
- Fundraising by venture capital firms in the third quarter of 2009 were at the
lowest level since the first quarter of 2003, according to statistics just
released by Thomson Reuters and the National Venture Capital Association
(NVCA).
Just 17 venture capital funds raised $1.6 billion during the most recent quarter, the survey found. "Anecdotally we are hearing that fundraising activity is accelerating as more firms that were waiting for economic recovery are beginning to formally seek commitments," said NVCA president Mark Heesen. "The reality, however, is that many limited partners are still determining their long term strategies in wake of the past year's financial crisis and that slows the process down considerably."
