Shazam Gets Funding, Counts 50M Users of Mobile Music ID AppAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 14, 2009 - 7:25am.
London
- Shazam Entertainment, a provider of music recognition technology, announced
on Wednesday that it raised an undisclosed sum of new funding from venture
capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers' iFund.
London-based Shazam said it now counts more than 50 million users of its service -- up 15 million from February. The company's music ID application lets a user hold a mobile phone up to a speaker, which then returns song and artist information, as well as links to purchase the song.
The
Shazam application has been downloaded more than 10 million times from Apple's
App Store, and is also available on BlackBerry App World, Nokia's Ovi Store and
Google's Android Market.
