Wikia Acquires LyricWiki, Gets Lyrics License from Gracenote

San Francisco - Wikia, the wiki-building company started in 2004 by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, has acquired the LyricWiki database of licensed song lyrics.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

As part of the deal, Wikia also paid an undisclosed sum to Sony's (NYSE: SNE) Gracenote to license song lyrics, ensuring royalties are paid to music publishers.

The deal will bring Wikia's custom tools to LyricWiki, including a WYSIWYG editor, blogs and a Q&A section where fans can post queries about music and receive answers from the community.
