WSJ to Supplant USA Today as Nation's Top-Selling NewspaperAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 14, 2009 - 9:30am.
Arlington,
Va. - USA Today no longer is the
nation's top-selling newspaper, according to newly released reports.
News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) Wall Street Journal said on Wednesday that it now counts 2.02 million daily subscribers after adding about 12,000 over the past six months. Though not official, the figures would displace long-time circulation leader USA Today, published by Gannett (NYSE: GCI), which last week announced that its circulation dropped 17% to 1.88 million. The news comes nearly a year after USA Today raised its newsstand price from $0.75 to $1. Official data from the Audit Bureau of Circulations is scheduled for release in late October.
