Frankfurt, Germany - Google (NASD: GOOG) announced on Thursday that it plans to open its own online e-book store next year, Google Editions, that will deliver e-books to any device with a Web browser. The store will launch with around a half-million titles, secured from publishers with whom Google already has relationships.

Google will share revenue both with these publishers, and with online retailers who choose to sell books hosted by Google from their own online storefronts.

Tom Turvey, Google's director of strategic partnerships, said that for e-books sold directly to consumers by Google, publishers would get 63% of revenues, with Google keeping the other 37%, according to Reuters' coverage.

The breakdown for e-books sold through retail partners would see publishers receive 45% of revenues, while most of the remaining 55% would go to the retail partner -- with Google keeping a small share.

Google Editions will use Google Checkout as its online payment processing service.
