3 UK to Bundle Spotify Music Service on HTC Hero SmartphoneAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 19, 2009 - 9:36am.
London - Hutchison Whampoa's U.K. mobile network operator 3 UK announced on
Monday that it will offer the touch-screen HTC Hero smartphone bundled with music
streaming service Spotify.
The announcement comes two months after Hutchison Whampoa head Lee Ka-shing made an investment in Spotify. The Google Android-powered handset bundled with a two-year subscription to Spotify Mobile will be available for an upfront fee of about $162, plus monthly payments that work out to around $57. The offering is the first mobile bundling deal for Spotify, which counts over 1 million subscribers to its paid service that is currently available in the U.K. and other parts of Europe, but slated to launch in the U.S. yet this year.
