Netflix: 42% of Members Streaming; Service to Expand Overseas

Los Gatos, Calif. - Online DVD rental service Netflix (NASD: NFLX) plans to make its on-demand Web streaming service available internationally next year, CEO Reed Hastings said on Thursday during an earnings call, PaidContent reported.

"We're looking to the second half of 2010 to make our streaming offering international. The plan is to start small in one market, prove out our model, and expand into other countries," Hastings said.

The company also disclosed data on how many of its 11.1 million subscribers actually use the free streaming service feature: 42%, up from 22% at the same time a year ago.
