Calif. - Watercooler, a developer
of fan communities and social games that claims 26 million users, announced on
Monday that it has raised $5.5 million in its second round of funding, led by
U.K. online gambling firm Betfair.
Previous backer Canaan Partners also participated. Founded in 2006, Mountain View, Calif.-based Watercooler operates online communities that connect fans around sports and TV entertainment, as well as fantasy sports games. The company will use the funds to further develop its fantasy sports and social games on Facebook and other platforms. The Watercooler 2009 Bracket Challenge application on Facebook counted over 1.7 million active users.
