Apple Sells 5,000 iPhones in China DebutAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on November 3, 2009 - 8:52am.
Hong Kong - Apple (NASD: AAPL) has sold just 5,000 iPhones in China since
its launch there last week with carrier partner China Unicom, Bloomberg
reported, citing comments from China Unicom president Lu Yimin.
The iPhone launches in China without Wi-Fi connectivity. The price tag for the high-end model in China is about $1,025, which Bloomberg noted is even 26% higher than in neighboring Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Chinese consumers are expected to purchase as many as 1 million iPhones this year from unofficial distributors importing Wi-Fi-capable handsets from overseas, according to BDA.
