retailer Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) announced on Tuesday that it will launch its own branded,
on-demand movie and entertainment service, powered by Sonic Solutions' Roxio
CinemaNow.
The partnership will also see Best Buy acquire warrants to purchase shares of Sonic stock. Best Buy will offer the Roxio CinemaNow-powered service from its website, and will also market a range of connected consumer electronics devices sold in its stores -- including the Insignia brand of televisions and Blu-ray players. The CinemaNow service lets users rent or purchase movies, TV episodes and other video content a la carte.
