Redwood City,
Calif. - Video game developer and
publisher Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS) yesterday announced that it would lay off 17% of its
workforce, or about 1,500 employees, in a bid to cut costs by about $100
million a year.
The new cuts include 900 developers, 500 in game publishing, and 100 corporate positions. Earlier this year, EA laid off some 1,100 employees as part of a restructuring. The company said during its restructuring it would be focusing on its hit game titles, and expanding its digital distribution.
