San Jose, Calif. - Adobe Systems (NASD: ADBE), the maker of Web and desktop publishing software, plans to lay off 680 employees, or about 9% of its total workforce, the company said in a regulatory filing.

The cuts mark the second round of layoffs at San Jose, Calif.-based Adobe in the past year, following 600 who were eliminated in December.

"Adobe is restructuring its business to align costs with its fiscal 2010 operating plan and budget, the company's three-year strategic priorities, and the realities of the business environment, as well as to ensure its ability to continue investing in long-term growth opportunities," the company said in a statement.
