- Sezmi, the developer of a TV service that combines traditional TV content,
movies and Internet video, announced on Monday that it has raised $25 million
in new funding, and launched a pilot of its service in Los Angeles.
Investors in the round included Morgenthaler Ventures, Omni Capital, TD Fund, Index Ventures and Legend Ventures. Belmont, Calif.-based Sezmi's service includes a set-top box, accompanying remote control and programming subscription plan. Content includes local TV channels, popular cable channels, movies from Fox, Lionsgate, Paramount, Sony and Universal, and content available on Sonic Solutions' Roxio CinemaNow service. The company said that Sezmi's advantages over existing services include advanced search and browse features; advanced promotional capabilities for matching content offers to viewer preferences; custom portals or "zones" for offering categorized content; and targeted advertising with sophisticated metrics.
