Grapevine, Texas - U.S. video game retail store chain GameStop (NYSE: GME) has purchased a stake in U.K.-based Jolt, a provider of video game news and a digital distribution platform.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"Jolt will allow us to test digital distribution," said Tony Bartel, GameStop's executive vice president of merchandising and marketing.

"We like the business model of being able to take IP from publishers, and then help them sell it when they port it to the browser space."
