Japan Arrests 10 Users of 'Share' P2P ApplicationAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on December 1, 2009 - 11:16am.
Los Angeles
- Authorities in a number of Japanese cities have arrested ten users of Share, a
file-sharing application popular in the country, on suspected copyright violations,
the local Anti-Counterfeiting Association announced on Monday, Variety reports.
The users are alleged to have traded movies, music and games, including the film "Death Note" and the games "Dragon Quest IX" and "Wii Sports Resort." Share is based on the same architecture as Winny, previously the most popular file-sharing application in Japan. The developer of Winny was found guilty of assisting copyright violations in 2006, but that verdict was overturned in October; development on Winny has since ceased.
