Washington - The Social Times, a media firm run by Nick O'Neill covering the social Web economy, said that it has been acquired by WebMediaBrands, the New York-based Internet firm behind websites Mediabistro, LearnNetwork, Freelance Connect and Semantic Web.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We now have the ability to accomplish what I first hoped to when I started Social Times a little over two years ago," wrote O'Neill on the company's blog.

"Not only do they bring resources, but they also have an experienced team that will help instantly scale the Social Times media business."

Social Times is the publisher of the All Facebook blog, which covers the comings and goings of the social media giant.

"[The] deal also brings us a solid online education biz and a thriving tradeshow - Social Ad Summit," wrote Alan Meckler, the CEO of WebMediaBrands, in a Twitter post.

O'Neill, who will remain with the company, said the move will lead to a number of new writers posting on his organization's sites, as well as new event announcements and possibly new sites.
