London
- Major record label EMI announced on Wednesday that it has acquired
Loudclothing.com, an independent online music merchandise distributor, from
Completely Independent Distribution.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. EMI established its own merchandise division earlier this year when it formed a partnership with promoters Live Nation and AEG Live, acting as one of their retail merchandise distributors. The label now sells music merchandise like t-shirts and accessories directly to physical and online retailers on behalf of over 200 artists. EMI said that Loudclothing.com founder Nic Wastell will now lead its European merchandise operations, and that 18 of the company's employees will also join EMI.
