Mountain View, Calif. – Social games publisher Playdom has
acquired Metaplace, a virtual world game engine development studio.

Financial
terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2006, San Diego-based
Metaplace has to date raised $9.4 million in backing, from investors including
Charles River Ventures, Crescendo Ventures, Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz.

Playdom, whose titles include "Mobsters" and "Sorority Life,"
recently raised $33 million in new funding, and has acquired studios including
Acclaim, Merscom, Three Melons, Offbeat Games, Green Patch and Trippert Labs.
