Except for the youngest adults, the number of new Twitter users has pretty much stayed the same over the past year. Even so, Twitter usage continues to grow, according to a new report from Pew Internet.
As of February 2012, about 15 percent of online adults use Twitter, with 8 percent of adults using it on a typical day.
That’s not a whole lot more than the 13 percent of online adults who used Twitter in May 2011. But “typical day usage” has doubled over the same time period.
Breaking it down by age group, Twitter use by those in their mid-20s to mid-40s seems to have leveled off during the past year. That’s not true for the youngest adults, those between 18 and 24, however. Closing in on a third (31 percent) of that group are now Twitter users, up from 18 percent in May of 2011 and 16 percent in late 2010.
