Menlo Park, Calif. – In an attempt to further monetize its user base, Facebook has launched the test of ”Want” and “Collect” buttons that will allow partnering retailers to sell their products to the social network’s users.
The company said it is conducting “a small test in which a few select businesses will be able to share information about their products through a feature called ‘Collections,’” according to a report by PCMag.
With the new application, Facebook users will be able to identify themselves as “wanting” a participating retailer’s products, an action which will be visible to users’ friends on their Facebook Timelines. Alternatively, they may be able to “collect” the product as an expression of their personal taste.
Among the retailers participating in the test are Pottery Barn, Wayfair, Victoria’s Secret, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus, Smith Optics and Fab.com
