Twitch adds live streaming to SOE’s ‘PlanetSide 2′
/ November 5, 2012 4:04 am

Sony Online Entertainment and Twitch announced a partnership that will make it easy for players to stream their competitions live via the gamer-dedicated video platform. PlanetSide 2, the massively multiplayer online first-person shooter (MMOFPS) first announced just over a year ago, will be the first title to offer this function when it launches on Nov. 20.

Twitch currently has more than 20 million monthly uniques, and the company expects the new one-click capability will boost the size of its community even further. “By partnering with Sony Online Entertainment … the biggest barrier to entry has been removed,” said Matthew DiPietro, vice president Marketing, Twitch. “There is no easier way to broadcast game play to the web than this.”

PlanetSide 2 has refreshed and updated the original PlanetSide with input from the title’s sizable fan base. Currently in external beta, the game is free-to-play with a premium tier available as a $14.99 monthly subscription.

“At SOE we believe very strongly in providing deeper social and emergent gameplay experiences,” said John Smedley, Sony Online Entertainment president. “We’ve gone out of our way to make the interface extremely easy to use and allow players to cast with just one-click.”
