Berkeley, Calif. – Finnish communications technology giant Nokia said late Tuesday it will acquire Berkeley-based earthmine, developer of an end-to-end 3D street level imaging system.
Financial terms of the deal, expected to close by the end of this year, were not disclosed.
The earthmine staff will join Nokia’s Location & Commerce business, with Berkeley becoming a key site for the development of 3D reality capture technology.
“We could not hope for a better place to fulfill and accelerate our mission of indexing the world in 3D.” said John Ristevski, the co-CEO of earthmine. The company’s system includes collection hardware, processing workflows, cloud hosting and client software.
