Mobile services firm mBlox names Cotney to CEO

Mobile services firm mBlox has named Tom Cotney Jr. to the position of CEO, filling the role being handled on an interim basis by chief operating officer Steve Love. The change is effective immediately.

Cotney will focus on expanding mBlox, both geographically and in terms of its product range. The company most recently launched two new mobile engagement APIs for developers, one for push notifications and the other for geo-fencing, both of which can be managed through a web-based dashboard.

Cotney most recently was board advisor to a B2B enterprise mobility company Catavolt Inc., having previously been chief executive for Air2Web where he steered the company through its acquisition by Velti

MBlox has relationships with about 800 mobile carriers throughout the globe and enables businesses to reach 6 billion consumer devices. In its early years, however, several countries levied fines against mBlox for practices like reverse-billed text messages and misleading customers into accepting recurring charges.
