Sports on Xbox Live get social predictions, challenges and SmartGlass second-screen enhancements

Xbox Live has added another way for sports fans to indulge their passion. Its new Sports Picks app lists college football, NBA and UFC events, and invites people to make and share their related predictions. In kind of a fantasy sports lite, there are also personal challenge options and a leaderboard for tracking everyone’s accuracy.

Xbox SmartGlass also got a sports boost, as detailed by Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb on his official Xbox Live blog. ESPN and NBA Game Time have been updated with SmartGlass “experiences” like second-screen enhancements, along with the ability to use a compatible smartphone or tablet as a supercharged remote control for navigating through “thousands of live events, highlights and replays” and choosing which ones to view on their TV screen.

SmartGlass is obviously available for Windows 8 and Windows RT tablets and PCs, but it also is available for Windows Phone (7.5 and 7.8), Android 4.x (“ice cream sandwich”) smartphones, and several generations of Apple’s iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.
