Today President Obama signed into effect an amended version of the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), allowing rental services to publicize their customer’s digital ‘rental’ history on social media websites like Twitter and Facebook, thus letting Netflix join in the digital media oversharing trend. Providing that you consent to release your Netflix viewing history, your friends and family can see which shows and movies you’re currently watching and what you really think of their favorite movies.
Netflix is already integrated with Facebook’s timeline and newsfeed features in other countries and has reported an increase in viewing hours as well as number of subscribers. Read more.
