The new MySpace officially launched to the public today, unveiling a revamped site focused on music. Co-owner Justin Timberlake’s presence is immediate as upon joining (which can be done using Facebook or Twitter logins or through a separate sign-in process) users are offered a free stream his new single featuring Jay Z, “Suit & Tie.”
What can you expect from the new MySpace? In an interview with CNET in October, MySpace COO Chris Vanderhook indicated that “the company will no longer try to compete with Facebook — the ‘uber social network,’ he called it — but will try to fill a void left by competing services, like Spotify or Pandora. ‘We think there is a huge gap that we wanted to fulfill,” Vanderhook said. “There is no point to compete with Facebook and Twitter.’” Read more.
