Tech giants Google and Facebook continued to pump record amounts of money into their lobbying efforts last year, according to a new report from taxpayer advocacy group Consumer Watchdog. Citing disclosure forms filed with the clerk of House of Representatives, the organization said Google spent $16.5 million on lobbying in 2012, up from $9.7 million the previous year. Facebook, meanwhile, spent $1.4 million in the fourth quarter, the first time it spent more than $1 million in a single period. For the year Facebook’s spending increased 196% to $4.0 million.
