Jon Leibowitz to Step Down as FTC Chairman
/ February 1, 2013 12:02 pm

Jon Leibowitz on Friday announced plans to step down on Feb. 15. Leibowitz, who became chair in the wake of the economic downturn in 2009, has focused primarily on protecting consumer privacy, stopping financial scammers and promoting competition in health care and high-tech markets. The technology sector has been a major point of emphasis in recent months, including a major settlement in January with Google over the Internet company’s business practices. Leibowitz’s tenture also has been marked by settlements with Intel and Facebook, as well as an update to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule. The FTC has not announced plans for a replacement. Related link: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2013/02/jdl.shtm
