OUYA announced today that it is on course to launch its Android-based game console in June, according to the Wall Street Journal. OUYA was created in 2012 by Julie Uhrman, a video game industry veteran who expressed an opportunity to open up the last closed game platform — the TV. OUYA took the project to Kickstarter in July of 2012 and it became one of the most successful Kickstarter projects ever with 63,416 backers and $8,596,474 in funds raised.
The console will launch with the help of retail support from Amazon, Best Buy, Target and GameStop. OUYA has been taking preorders on the website. The console and the controller are available at a price of $99. Julie Uhrman, CEO in an interview said that they have received over 68,000 console orders.
