Gigaom: EU to Invest $65M in 5G Research

Gigaom reports that the European Union’s digital chief, Neelie Kroes will invest €50 million ($65 million) into 5G research, in an attempt to get ahead of the world in mobile technologies and improve EU spectrum coordination. Kroes is hoping that 5G is delivered by 2020. The €50 million funding for 5G research consists of €16 million which will be used for METIS project. Kroes said, “Rolling out today’s networks is important. But what comes after? For the next global standard, and the next generation of technology, will Europe lead the world, or merely follow?”  Read more
