Plain Vanilla Games Raises $22 Million for Quiz-Up App

plainvanillaTechCrunch reports that Plain Vanilla Games has raised $22 million in a Series B round of funding. This round was led by Sequoia Capital, along with participation of existing investors Tencent, Greycroft Partners, IDG Ventures, BOLDstart Ventures, CrunchFund (run by TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington), and MESA+. QuizUp is an iPhone app that pits users against each other using real-time or asynchronous trivia match-ups. The round of financing is the company’s third this year. “We didn’t really need the money just before launch, but we thought of it as an insurance thing,” said Thor Fridriksson, CEO of Plain Vanilla.
