Sony Plans to Sell Gracenote Audio-Recognition Service

Bloomberg reports that Sony Corporation is looking to sell its audio-recognition software business, Gracenote, which has annual revenue in the $100 million to $200 million range. Sony acquired Gracenote in 2008 for $260 million. The company provides software that allows Apple iTunes and other digital retailers to recognize songs using metadata. Bloomberg reports that Sprint Nextel Corp. shareholders have accepted a $21.6 billion deal with SoftBank Corp., agreeing to give the Japanese company control of the third-largest U.S. wireless carrier, bringing to end an eight month long saga. Sprint said that nearly 98% of the votes cast were in favor of the deal.
