Sony’s Music Unlimited has launched in Canada, the 14th country in which the streaming service is available. This follows January’s  expansion into Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Canadians can check out Music Unlimited thanks to Sony’s usual offer of a 30-day free trial. Users can listen to the extensive library via Bravia HDTVs, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Android handsets, PCs and other connected devices.

They also can listen when their device isn’t literally connected, since the service allows up to 4,000 songs to be stored in Offline Mode. Music Unlimited subscribers can add songs from their personal music collections into their Music Unlimited library, too. Its Music Sync software can locate existing music on a PC integrate them into the cloud-based service, assuming the songs are in the Music Unlimited catalog of more than 15 million licensed songs. As with its better-known competitor iTunes, Music Sync also adds correct track details and artwork for each track.

Tim Schaaff, president of Sony Network Entertainment, said the expansion means the Music Unlimited service reaches more countries than any other digital music subscription service. “Consumers around the world are craving a digital music service that provides access to their favorite music anytime, anywhere in the most simple and convenient way,” he said. “We’ll continue to roll-out the service in new territories and add new features and devices.”

The Music Unlimited service adapts to users’ music preferences, something it gets better at the more it’s used. There are two tiers of service, both of which include ad-free radio channels and the Music Sync feature: Basic, for CAD$3.99 a month; and Premium for CAD$9.99 a month, which adds additional channels and on-demand access to songs in the Music Unlimited catalog.
