Comcast Program Connects More Than 1 Million to Low-Cost Broadband

Cable giant Comcast said on Tuesday that its program providing low-cost broadband service to needy families now has connected more than 1 million Americans. The program, known as Internet Essentials, offers broadband for $9.95 a month, plus the option to purchase an Internet-ready computer for under $150 and access to free digital literacy training. Comcast Expands “Internet Essentials” Program in DC

Cable giant Comcast said it has expanded a two-year-old program in the DC area that provides low-cost broadband service to needy families. New to the company's "Internet Essentials" program is a partnership with the DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative (DCPNI) aimed at increasing digital literacy and connecting more families to the Internet in the Kenilworth-Parkside neighborhood. As part of the partnership, 300 families with children who attend Neval Thomas Elementary School, the Parkside Campus of Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy and Educare of DC will receive free computers upon enrollment in the program.
