Facebook’s Acquisition of WhatsApp Unlikely to Face Regulatory Scrutiny

Facebook's newly announced $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp isn't likely to face much antitrust scrutiny in DC, Politico reported. The social networking giant earlier this week unveiled plans to acquire WhatsApp, the developer of a mobile messaging app that allows its approximately 450 million monthly users to exchange messages without having to pay for texting. Antitrust experts say the deal is unlikely to draw the ire of regulators since the service already has plenty of competition, led by traditional text messaging. Read More
