Zynga, the financially struggling publisher of social games such as Words With Friends and FarmVille, said it plans to shutter its OMGPOP social games site "to make way for new and exciting gaming opportunities." Bloomberg: Zynga Slashes 520 Jobs, Shuts Offices as Games Underachieve

Bloomberg reports that social games giant Zynga Inc. announced that it will slash 520 jobs (approximately 18 percent of its staff), and shut down some offices as a result of lower than expected returns from its titles apart from the FarmVille series.
