Los Angeles – The Los Angeles
Times Media Group said on Wednesday that it has formed a joint venture with
U.S. Local News Network (USLNN), to create two local news sites aimed at
readers in Orange
County. The venture will
see the companies share content and advertising across the two sites,
TheOCNow.com and OCLNN.com, and Times-owned newspapers the Coastline Pilot,
Daily Pilot and the Huntington Beach Independent. The companies have invested
about $1 million in the venture, USLNN CEO Neil Senturia told the Times.

- Publisher and broadcaster Tribune announced on Friday that it will combine
the operations of its Zap2It entertainment listings service with the entertainment
news division at its Los Angeles Times. Zap2It, which counts an audience of 4
million unique monthly visitors, will remain a standalone site. Leading the new
operation will be LATimes.com entertainment editor Richard Rushfield and
executive producer Joseph Kapsch. The combined operation is expected to draw a
monthly online audience of 9 million unique visitors and 65 million page views.

Chicago - Tribune, the
publisher of eight major daily newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune, on
Monday became the first major newspaper publisher to file for Chapter 11
Bankruptcy protection, the Associated Press reported. Tribune, which signaled
the move in recent days by hiring Lazard as its financial advisor and law firm
Sidley Austin as its special legal counsel, listed $13 billion in debt, and
just $7.6 billion in assets.

- Eventful, a site that aggregates local event listings, said on Wednesday that
it will provide a selection of regional events to The Guide, a new resource on
live music, book signings, art galleries, restaurants and other activities
offered by the Los Angeles Times. San Diego-based Eventful said The Times is
among 1,200 companies using its API to create targeted event listing calendars.
