WSJ: Verizon in Talks to Purchase Canadian Telecoms

WSJ reports that Verizon Communications Inc. is in discussions to buy one, or possibly even two, struggling Canadian mobile-phone carriers, as it considers a move up north. Verizon has signed a nondisclosure agreement with Mobilicity, a small startup wireless carrier in Canada, in planning for discussions over a potential deal, according to a person familiar with the matter. Bloomberg: Sprint Investors Agree to $21.6 Billion SoftBank Purchase

Bloomberg reports that Sprint Nextel Corp. shareholders have accepted a $21.6 billion deal with SoftBank Corp., agreeing to give the Japanese company control of the third-largest U.S. wireless carrier, bringing to end an eight month long saga. Sprint said that nearly 98% of the votes cast were in favor of the deal. SoftBank has received three of the four regulatory approvals required to complete the Sprint deal, however needs a final go ahead from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. . Read More
