FCC to Explore Eliminating Sports Blackout Rules

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) plans to explore whether it should eliminate sports blackout rules, which sometimes keep fans from watching their teams' games -- particularly in the National Football League (NFL) -- when home stadiums don't sell out. A coalition of consumer, media and fan groups filed a joint petition to eliminate the 40-year-old rules in late 2011, labeling them "anti-consumer."
