Why it will Fail.
1- expensive device - $ 500-600
2- expensive service plan - $ 1,200/yr
3- att slowest 3g network in US
4- single carrier
5- feature overkill - overly complex - ipods success is based on elegant simplicity !!
6- no carrier subsidies on device
7- who needs it? there is no unfilled demand - so they enter a viscious mobile device market with the added challenge of having to create the demand
8- they will bleed marketing/advert $$$$
9- potentially high return rate from buyer remorse and usability frustration
10- potentail for flaws in the device, software, and networking
11- no ms-outlook exchange functionality
12- apple will stumble and tumble on this one - short below $ 70 for sept/oct and buy a boat instead.

The I phone is a perfectly fine phone for those who use mainly the features it offers..Its main downfall is at&t. They botched the launch horribly, offending mostly their longstanding customers. Those clientele who pay 500 dollars plus for a phone do not expect to go through immortal hell to get service.. The whole venture including service is horribly overpriced and will probably fade as people regain their senses for what true utility they have and is 100dollars plus per month a long term reasonable cost.......and the answer is : probably not. There are already several phones on the market that will do more, faster, than the Iphone without ridiculous expense and hellish activation. AT&T owes their customers amd apple an apology for all the accoumt issues they created.......killing the launch of the phone and moreso will probably have serious impact on the iphone sales hereafter.

iPhone will have snob appeal for those who must have the latest cool thing, and will actually be useful to those who love the idea of a large-screen video iPod.
The mobile web browsing with an almost desktop safari browser is better than most and has WiFi capability for increased speed. The WiFi connectivity is a good start but limited.
TMobile offers full WiFi including wifi phone connectivity - ATT has some catching up to do and needs to offer competitive calling plans.
As an email receive device, it's not bad, though there are better and cheaper alternatives. The glass-screen keyboard is a MAJOR disappointment and makes email and text sending a chore - this is not a device for people who do serious email composition.
