Flat fees for flat music

I value some songs more than others. I de-value some songs so much that you would have to pay me to listen to them. My tastes are mine. Others' tastes are not mine. Every copyrighted work should stand on its own two feet, and be valued -- or not valued -- for its own merits or lack of merit. Yet, a flat fee means my favorite tune is "worth" the same as my least favorite. To make matters worse, budding artists who would like to entice me to try out their music by letting me have it free -- or even paying me to take it -- are out of luck, because I have already paid for their music under the same ISP blanket that includes the favorite tunes with which they want to compete. A flat fee would mean everything is flatlined -- the day the music died.
